The Canon Powershot SX1 IS comes with a crisp 10 Megapixels capture, and is fitted with a 20x optically-stabilized lens and a 2.8 flip-out screen. It is indeed an excellent super-zoom camera. Together with the SX10 IS, the Canon PowerShot SX1 went above the former best-selling PowerShot S5 IS in sales.

The Canon PowerShot SX1 IS and SX10 IS share typical features, the sensor technology being the main difference between the two. The Canon digital cameras are Canon’s first non-DLSR camera to be equipped with a CMOS sensor. This allows the camera to photograph full resolution images at a faster speed. This is also important to enable movie and video recording in full HD 1080p format.

The compact camera has a 16 by 9 shaped wide screen and viewfinder, much larger than what the SX10 IS has. The Canon PowerShot SX1 IS also comes with an HDMI port which allows it to connect to HDTVs. It is also equipped with an IR remote which automatically triggers the shutter, as well as controls the playback of shots.

This PowerShot camera boasts a 28-560mm range for wider and longer coverage. It utilizes Canon’s new quiet USM motors that offer two different speeds.

The Canon 35 mm camera comes with the stereo microphones from older versions of the camera, as well as a button that automatically records videos. This Photo camera SX1 IS uses the latest DIGIC 4 processor.

The Canon digital camera features the new Canon thumb wheel which helps make adjustments and scrolling a lot easier.

As compared to the older versions of the camera, this Canon digital SLR has twice farther optical range, just one of the added advanced features. Here are its key differences from its precursor, the PowerShot S5 IS.

New 28 – 560 mm equiv lens

Digic 4 processor (S5 IS was Digic III)

Larger, higher resolution LCD screen (2.8 inches vs 2.5 inches)

HD movie recording at 1080p (1920 x 1080)

‘My Menu’ system

Greatly increased continuous shooting (burst) speed

RAW file format is back

With all the resounding striking features and improvements, the Canon PowerShot SX1 IS deserves to pass the test. Of course, you still need to get your hand to an actual feel before you but one. These great features make the product worth its price.

Now that Canon has released the latest addition to it’s ever popular Digital Rebel lineup, the XSi, many current Rebel XT or XTi owners are likely deciding about upgrading their cameras. The advice is don’t! It’s really not worth it. Sure, new features will be added like Live View, a larger LCD, and faster FPS. These can be very enticing, but is it really worth it? What is it that you’re really after? Perhaps you want better pictures or just the satisfaction of having the latest model?
If you’re going to upgrade, it must mean that it’s going to be something substantial. It should be something that allows you to take better photos. At the same time, it should improve your skills as a photographer. Below are just a few points to consider before you buy or upgrade your camera.

All the Canon Digital Rebels are really just entry level digital SLR cameras. That includes the XT, XTi, and XSi. Don’t get me wrong, they’re really great cameras, and they provide an excellent bridge for those wanting to move from the no-brainer simple world of point and shoot photography to the beautifully rendered near-pro quality of SLR photography. Arguably Canon has done a better job of filling that gap. Better than any other camera manufacturer including Nikon, Sony, and Olympus. My point is if you really want to move up to a better SLR, then raise your sights a little higher, and have a look at the Canon EOS 30D or Canon EOS 40D. It will not only challenge you to improve your photography skills, but also produce much better photographs.

By skipping up a model line in the Canon chain of command, you will earn a few extra advantages. Moving up to a 30D or 40D gives you a full metal camera body. Metal bodies are far more shock resistant, and durable than the molded plastic found on the Digital Rebel lineup. The more delicate and sensitive internal camera parts will survive longer if encased in a metal body. In addition, you’ll get better ISO performance, metering and picture control. Also, keep in mind, that more megapixels do not necessarily make a better camera. Especially models with over 5MP.

Another good thing with the Canon 30D and 40D models, is that most accessories that work with the 30D and 40D will also work with cameras further up the Canon model line like the 5D. Rebel accessories generally won’t work though. Given the perpetual affliction of “upgradeitis” that many camera geeks find themselves in, that could save a whack of money on the next upgrade. Of course you don’t need to save all that money, you could always just sink it into a really nice new lens to go with that upgraded camera

It might have happened that you shoot a stunning scenery but when you transfer it to your computer, you where dismayed because you didn’t get the shot that you wanted. Your alternative of course is to turn to Photoshop and edit it, but did you know that editing your photos can reduce pixels which in turn reduce the quality of your photo as well? Simply rotating or cropping your photo can reduce the number of pixels, and this can reduce resolution that makes you miss the fine details.

So if you wanted a fine quality photo, it would make sense to get the horizon straight inside the camera at once. Some people get the horizon straight unconsciously but others do it constantly. Sometimes it looks straight in the camera, but the frustration happens afterwards.

The secret is actually very simple; don’t try to get the horizon straight! Why? Because it is already straight! Now what you just have to do is to make sure that the frame of the viewfinder is parallel to the horizon.

If you are using SLR or DSLR, it is the best camera choice. However, when it comes to landscapes, compact cameras work better because they offer a much better depth of field.

If you wanted a great landscape shot, all you have to do is to follow this tip for lighting.
For soft lighting with a touch of warmth, take photos during “golden hours.” A golden hour is the first hour after dawn and also the last hour before sunset. If you want a soft effect, you can shoot on a foggy day. For dramatics shadows, you can shoot on cloudy days. But if you want an intensified color and subdued highlights, shoot under an overcast sky. For enhancing the photo quality and add drama on it, shoot with contrasting colors.

There are still so much to learn about photography, lightning is just a part of how to get a beautiful shot. This is one art that you can fall in love with.

It wasn’t easy for Pentax whose forte is the 35mm film SLR cameras to catch up with the leading brands of digital SLR like Canon and Nikon. However, when they appeared, they came out big and they took the attention of Canon and Nikon photographers. Many of them made a switch to Pentax since the company’s initial release of their first digital SLR in 2003. Now, they are greatly popular and they also have released various upgrades of SLR products.

The SLR camera market is no longer a two-sided competition. The bad thing is that selection is a complicated process if you are to choose from the various models offered by these three. Pentax SLR cameras cost lesser than Canon or Nikon making it a good choice especially for those who are buying their first SLR.

The Pentax K-x perfectly fits the budding photographer who is still mastering the art of shooting. This was released in October 2009 and has many features that make it the best choice for an entry level SLR.

For instance, SLRs have a general color of black and some are silver. However, the Pentax K-x does not only have this traditional color but it also comes in white, red, and navy too.

With a price of around $650, the Pentax K-x is considerably lower than other major brands. It is designed to be powered by the standard AA batteries so this means you can always have an AA at hand in case power runs out.

Professional photographers can also have an excellent secondary camera with the Pentax K20D. This was released in February 2008, and is also a good choice for serious amateur photographers. With a price of $1170, the Pentax K20D boasts of a weather-proof body, 14.6 mega pixels, dust control features and an extraordinary stabilization feature.

The latest addition to Pentax exquisite models is the K-7 which can record an HD video, up to 30 frames per second and with a resolution of 1526 x 1024.

Pentax has not maximized venturing into the full professional photography market, but they already offer high quality SLR cameras. Professional photographers predict that Pentax will eventually be at the top of the market in few years time.

Nikon and Canon are undoubtedly the closest rivals in the professional photography market. Nikon has the edge over Canon 20 years ago. They practically own the 35mm photography market, and Canon is the number two company. With the introduction of the autofocus technology, Canon went neck to neck on competition with Nikon as both updated their products.

With the invention of digital photography, Canon took the lead over Nikon with their advanced innovations and pressing marketing. It was only in the late months of 2007 that Nikon came with the D3 and D300 for the competition. As we have seen, half of the photographers in the Beijing Olympics were using Nikon while during the Athens Olympics; Canon was convincingly the tool of those who want to catch a glimpse of their favorite athletes.

In 2008, Canon launched the EOS 50D which is more affordable than the Nikon D300—the closest competing model. It boasts of a 15.1 megapixel against the 12.3mp of the Nikon D300. The D300 may have faster frame rate but the EOS 50D is cheaper, with higher resolution, and a higher ISO with 12,800 as compared to the 6,400 ISO of the D300.

Canon again came up with the 21.1 mp EOS 5D Mark II. This is way higher than the 12.1 mp Nikon D700—which it aims to compete against. While they have the same ISO of the 25,600, Nikon seems to have mastered the quality of having a faster frame rate. Again, the EOS 5D Mark II is priced lower than the Nikon D700 which makes it more marketable to the beginner photographer.

Nikon made a great advancement when it introduced the first DSLR with video capture—the Nikon D90. For some, this is a feature that can save them the cost of buying a separate equipment for video capture. Canon immediately showed with an answer in just three weeks. The EOS 5D Mark II is even masterfully crafted; equipped with a 1080p video capture.

Nikon is a brand well known to have a faster frame rate and Canon obviously has higher megapixels. It seems that Nikon is not aiming to sport a higher pixel camera anyway. Presently, Canon has taken the buyers to their yard and Nikon needs to do something about it.

The job of being a photographer is very spontaneous and always on-the-go which is why having a reliable camera bag is a must. One brand that knows the ins and outs of this industry is Lowepro who has been in this kind of industry since 1967. Lowepro camera bag and rolling cases are just some of the necessities a professional photographer has to secure for protection of his equipment.

During photo shoots, a venue can be in a very normal place like in a studio or it can go to the extreme ones like the forest, a country-side field or even on the road. Wherever it is, on-site locations call for protective means to carry one’s precious digital camera. This is where a Lowepro camera bag plays its role.

A camera pouch is vital in making sure a digital camera or any camera for that matter, is free from any possible damage when handling it to a location. A Lowepro camera has padded compartments to fit in batteries, cables, camera cleaning materials, lens, memory cards and other digital accessories. Carrying is no fuss with its adjustable straps and a belt loop. Everything nicely stays inside this bag with zipped pockets. It is also water resistant for added protection.

Lowepro rolling cases are built to fit in more photo equipment. It can carry DSLR and SLR systems, lenses, films, batteries, tripods, memory cards, mounting accessories, reflectors and laptops. Lowepro rolling cases are perfect for easy packing and unpacking even when the location schedule changes every 2 hours. All equipment is safely tucked inside every Lowepro bag – sturdy and high quality.

Tough location jobs are nothing when you know you are using one of the best brands in the market.
